travel

You can fly directly into the Martha’s Vineyard airport from Boston, Hyannis, Nantucket, New Bedford, and Providence. If you have the time and want to save some money, it's almost always cheaper to fly into Boston’s Logan Airport, then take a bus to Woods Hole (Peter Pan Busline - www.peterpanbus.com) and catch the ferry (www.steamshipauthority.com). This is surprisingly simple given that the bus leaves right from the airport and drops you off right at the ferry dock. The same bus also stops in Providence, which is where Southwest flies into. If you’re lucky enough to be able to drive to Woods Hole, there's long-term parking with shuttles to the ferry.
There are also passenger ferries from Hyannis, New Bedford, Falmouth, Hyannis and Nantucket (see links below). The Woods Hole ferry is the cheapest and the only one that also carries cars. If you do want to take your car across, you’ll need to make reservations very early. Reservations become available to non-Vineyard residents at the end of January. It's also very expensive, $130 for a round trip last summer. Many people choose to rent a car on Vineyard instead, or get around by public transportation. See “getting around the island” post below for details on those options.
